Mini Tamsin Project

Phase 1
9/14/23: Almost a decade ago, I used to have a petz dog named Moose who was a shortie something? Maybe lab mix or maybe Dali, I'm not sure. Either way, he was adorable and one of the saddest losses when I lost all of my old files. I've always loved shortie mixes, and as I was breeding my Tamsin line, I had the idea to create a shortie Tamsin line as well. And thus, this project was born.

This one, I reallyyy had no idea where to start. For my first Generation, I adopted about a million DanexDachie pairs, and DalixMutt pairs.

This was my first mistake. I cannot tell you what possessed me to put Dane into my line, but I have been paying for it ever since. :') I'm not sure if it was because I wanted bigger looking dogs and didn't understand genetics? Not sure.

Anyway, by my 4th block, I realized my mistake, and also realized that there's absolutely no reason to have Dane in this line. Like none. The only positive is some really cute ear variation, but that's about it. So after that, I switched to DalixDachie and DalixMutt pairings, which were then bred together to create some of the ugliest mixies you've ever seen LOL.

Phase 2
9/15/23: In Generations 1-3, I wasn't super picky about what body shapes I was letting through my line,
which ended up being a problem for me later on. My goal was to have every dog carry 100% Dali body types on both the mother & father's side, but I didn't quite get there, due to being a little lax in these early generations. Around Gens 4-5 I started getting a little more choosy, and ultimately ended up with a decent patch of ancestors.
(Pictured above: Swiss and Holstein from my Cow block)
However, these guys (while cute) weren't perfect. They still carried the rounded belly Dachie body shape instead of the Dali body shape, which I found really difficult to breed out in later generations because I let so much of it in during these earlier generations.

Phase 3
9/18/23: Finally, I ended up with two sets of grandparents in Generation 6!

Echo (m) x Avalon (f)
As you can see, we did eventually get rid of the Dachie body problem, though there was still those pesky Dane ears hanging around. BUT, by Generation 7, I was able to breed them out entirely and ended up with my two parents for my Shortie line!

All in all, while there were MANY things I would do differently, I'm really pleased with how the project turned out. I think these guys are adorable, and look forward to adding in some more eye color and coat color variation in later generations.
